Hi Rosa, thanks for "Te lo digo yo", "cantina", "esquina habanera", and suggesting I change my Italian "che" to Spanish "que" (I'm sure Martí didn't use that Italian word in these lines).Īnd special thanks for pointing out that "un" should be "el", I originally had "el" but then thought this was one of the differences I heard from the original and changed it to "un", your comment made me listen to it again and in fact the girl does sing "el" so now I must change it back again to "el". The final stanza appears to be completely unrelated to anything written by Martí, and I'm not sure I've got it correct - I don't like "esquina manera" (not an idiom I've heard elsewhere) and I can't imagine why "bravera" and I'm not sure whether the first word in the final line is "say" or "stay" (I think it it sounds more like "stay" but "say" would make more sense, especially if the last word of the line was in quotes.)Īnyway, here's my attempt at a transcription (leaving out the chorus except after the 1st stanza). The 6th stanza is also fairly straight from Martí, except for "No me pongas en el" instead of "No me pongan en lo", the addition of some words at the beginning of the repeat of the first couplet, and the addition of the line "Pero vivo yo!" The first 5 stanzas (see below) are straight from Martí, except trivia like "sin nombre" instead of "sin nombres", and of course in each stanza the first couplet is repeated before the second is sung. The estrebillo is sung after most (but not all) verses, sometimes more than once. ![]() Anyway, I've made a transcription (see below) - maybe someone can check it, correct if necessary, and replace the current lyrics (a moderator or an admin can do that, I can't. I wonder why no-one converted this to a transcription request? Posting 16 lines of which only 12 are actually in the video and leaving out the estribillo and the other 31 lines that are actually sung maybe wasn't the best idea.
